HEAD OF FINANCE / COMPTROLLER
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Trinity High School in River Forest, IL, is seeking a highly qualified, mission driven executive as Comptroller.
Trinity High School is an all-girls Catholic school located in a near western-suburb of Chicago. Trinity, an International Baccalaureate institution, has more than 100 years of history educating young women who embrace knowledge, faith, and strength as global citizens of the twenty first century. Purposefully diverse, Trinity attracts students from across the Chicagoland area (over 50 zip codes), and internationally, with a mission of empowering young women.
The Comptroller of Trinity High School is a key member of the President’s Senior Administration Team, responsible for the leadership of the school’s accounting, finances, business office, human resources, maintenance, transportation, buildings & grounds, and security. The Comptroller ensures the efficient and effective use of school funds. The Comptroller provides both operational and programmatic support to the organization. The Comptroller supervises the finance unit and is the financial spokesperson for the organization. The Comptroller directly assists the President on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, and forecasting needs. The Comptroller position is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the school, including the development of a financial and operational strategy with the President.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Lead and directly responsible for the accounting, finance, human resources, and facilities operations of the school.
● Oversee the Manager of Accounts Receivable and Manager of Accounts Payable.
● Direct the Annual Budget and long-term planning process for revenue, expenses, investments, contract services, and personnel.
● Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization’s needs.
● Lead overall long-term financial planning to meet organizational and facility needs.
● Develop and maintain the system of internal controls and risk management to safeguard the financial assets and data of Trinity High School.
● Assist the President in the design, implementation, and timely calculations of wage
incentives and salaries for the staff.
● Develop monthly P&L and Balance Sheet reports.
● Deliver timely IRS filings.
● Attend School Leadership Team Meetings
● Attend Finance and Facilities Committee meetings.
● Assume other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION
Preferred Experience
5-7 years as a Controller/Comptroller, Head of Accounting, Finance Director, Chief Financial Officer, or other similar role within a relevant organization of at least 50 employees.
Education
Required: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
Preferred: Completion of a master’s degree in business (MBA) or related graduate degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
● General office software, including Excel and Word, and skillful in the use of databases, specifically QuickBooks.
● Create and assess financial statements and budget documents.
● Recognize and be responsive to the needs of parents, faculty, and students.
● Supervise staff, including regular progress reviews and plans for improvement.
● Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
